Naming the Northern High School Football Stadium
Durham Public Schools is seeking input from the community for a name for Northern High School's football stadium. A recommendation has been presented to name the stadium after longtime Northern and UNC Chapel Hill coach Ken Browning. Please share your feedback with us by Monday, August 21. This information will be presented at the August 24 board meeting.
About Ken Browning
Ken Browning is noted as one of the leading football coaches in North Carolina at both the high school and collegiate level. Before coaching at the University of North Carolina, Browning developed a successful high school record with stops at Ledford High School from 1970-75 and Northern High School in Durham from 1976-93. He had a combined record of 214-54-6 at both schools, which included earning 10 straight league crowns and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) State 4-A crown in 1993.
Browning earned AP High School Coach of the Year honors in 1992 and 1993 and was head coach of the North Carolina Shrine Bowl team in 1993. He is a member of the Northern High School Hall of Fame, the Guilford College Sports Hall of Fame and the NCHSAA Hall of Fame. Browning is only the third coach to ever win a state title and the Shrine Bowl in the same year.

As someone who ATTENDS northern..
I feel I can speak for a lot of athletes that attend Northern when I say this stadium should be dedicated to Coach Wilson. Someone who is both the head coach of Football and Track and field, the two sports that the stadium is really meant for, He cares for his athletes and puts a lot of time and effort into training them. He makes practices fun but also reminds us that in order to be great, we have to put in the work. He has made an impact on so many of our lives and looks out for us if we ever need anything. That’s someone I’m proud to call my coach and someone who deserves to have his name on that stadium. Thanks for reading, and please consider My Coach, Coach Wilson.

There is no one else better suited than Ken Browning Stadium. Great coach but also a great person.

You can name the old field after Browning since that’s where he won the championship. Name the new field something else like Knights Stadium

Kenny Browning Stadium
His accomplishments and records speak for themselves. He was an excellent coach along with being a wonderful support and mentor to his players challenging them in football but also in life.
